John Cena

John Cena fought back tears as he marked the 20th anniversary of his WWE debut.

The former world champion, who debuted on ‘WWE SmackDown’ in June 2002 in a match against Kurt Angle, returned on ‘Raw’ last night (27/06/22) to celebrate the anniversary and address the fans.

“This 20th anniversary is very important to me because it means that you have allowed me to do this for two decades,” he said in the ring during the show.

“It’s never occurred to me that every time I stand in this, it’s because you allow it.” Guys, you’ve created an environment for me to be my true self over the years.

“I need to thank you for those moments, and I need to thank you for making me who I am!”

He insisted that WWE had prepared him “for anything,” but added that this extended beyond his film career and roles in films such as “Fast and Furious” and “Peacemaker.”

While the 45-year-old star isn’t sure when he’ll wrestle again, he says it’s definitely on the cards, and he won’t just be back for one more match.

“It’s been 20 years and I’m 45 years old, and I only say that because I don’t know when you’re going to see me in the ring again,” he said. I’m not saying you won’t, but I’m not sure when that will be.

“So I need to say this now: it’s not going to be just one [more match]. Don’t worry about it!” This must be stated. Anything else I do is never just for me.

“It’s not about me, just like when you chant Cena. It’s all about us banding together. It’s all about ‘us’… That is exactly what we sound like. We never give up because we’re only getting started. Come get some if you want some!”
