On Sunday, June 26, the 2022 BET Awards were held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Ahead of the show, dubbed “culture’s biggest night,” celebrities showed off their outfits, which ranged from casual to cutting-edge and beyond.
Jack Harlow was among those who made a statement, wearing a black T-shirt with Lil Nas X, with whom he collaborated on “Industry Baby.” While Harlow received a nomination for best male hip-hop artist, the “Panini” rapper did not. Lil Nas X has been blasting the BET Awards for the perceived snub since the nominations were announced.
He’s expressed his feelings on Twitter in since-deleted tweets, writing, I just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we make it to the top mfs try to pretend we are invisible.” He’s also released a new song, “Late to Da Party,” featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again, in which he takes another shot at the BET Awards. (Previously, the BETs responded, saying they appreciate the rapper’s work and that “we proudly showcased his extraordinary talent and creativity on the show” in previous ceremonies.)
Lizzo, who wore a stunning black gown with ruffled sleeves and skirt, Billy Porter, Chloe Bailey and Summer Walker were among the other stars who showed off their fashion sense on the BETs red carpet.
For the second year in a row, Taraji P. Henson was the highlight of this year’s awards show. Sean “Diddy” Combs, this year’s lifetime achievement award winner, is set to deliver a star-studded performance. Doja Cat has the most nominations this year, with six. Drake and Ari Lennox both have four. Follow our winners list, which will be updated as winners are announced, here.
