Rapper Lil Tjay is said to have had emergency surgery after being shot in New Jersey.

The Bergen County prosecutor’s office said in an early-morning tweet that its major crimes unit and the Edgewater Police Department are investigating a shooting that occurred around midnight Wednesday at 14 The Promenade, a shopping plaza in Edgewater.

According to TMZ, one of the victims was the 21-year-old rapper, who was undergoing surgery. The extent of his injuries and his condition were unknown at the time.

Representatives for the rapper, Tione Jayden Merritt, and the prosecutor’s office did not immediately respond to The Times’ requests for comment on Wednesday.

According to TMZ, the shooting took place in two locations: a Chipotle restaurant at 14 The Promenade and a nearby Exxon gas station.

Just before the shoot, the “Goin’ Up” and “Destined 2 Win” singer issued a “public service announcement” on his Instagram Stories, saying, “Just because you’ve been around a person doesn’t make you entitled to the fruits of that person’s labor.” Envy is at an all-time high, so stay out of trouble.”

This week, the rapper shared a snippet of his upcoming single “Stressed” on TikTok and asked followers when he should release it.
