The mystery drama became the streaming platform’s most-watched film! Based on a series of young adult novels written by Nancy Springer as her take on Conan Doyle’s iconic books, the movie follows the adventures of the bright and witty younger sister of Sherlock Holmes.
After receiving a majority of high praise and positive reviews, the movie was renewed for a sequel.
Millie Bobby Brown reprised her role as the lively Enola and had us all glued to screens once again with her performance in Enola Holmes 2.
After two blockbuster releases, will there be an Enola Holmes 3? Read on to find out!
What is Enola Holmes 2 about?
Millie Bobby Brown is back in action solving cases as Enola Holmes, the younger sister of Sherlock Holmes, in Enola Holmes 2, which dropped on Netflix on November 4, 2022.
The sequel continues following the adventures of Enola, with Sherlock and Lord Tewkesbury supporting her.
Enola returns and follows in her brother’s footsteps by setting up her own detective agency.
Enola soon discovers running her own agency isn’t as easy as it first appears,
and just when she is about to give up hope of getting a case, she is presented with the chance of helping to find her client’s missing sister.
This time, Enola takes on her first case as an official detective: Bessie Chapman, whose older sister Sarah Chapman is missing.
Sarah Chapman used to work at a matchstick factory as well as a dancer at a music hall. As Enola investigates she suspects the matchstick factory since the girls working there have been dying of Typhus.
The movie also sees the return of Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes, Helena Bonham Carter as Sherlock, and Enola’s mother, Eudoria.

Will there be a third Enola Holmes movie?
So far Netflix has not yet confirmed if there will be a third Enola Holmes film.
However, given how well the first film did and hopefully the second one will too, there’s a big chance we could see the return of Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes again.
Enola Holmes 2 ends with the introduction of two immensely important and iconic characters from Doyle’s franchise — Moriarty and John Watson.
The twist is that in this version of the story, Moriarty is a black woman. In fact, she even assures both Holmes that they will meet again.
These initial encounters in the film are set up in a way that promises future interaction.
Coupled with Enola finally setting up her detective agency, it is highly likely that there will be an Enola Holmes 3.
While there have been no official statements from Netflix at the time of writing this, the positive reviews suggest a renewal announcement will be made soon.
Who might star in Enola Holmes 3?
Obviously, Enola Holmes would be very odd without Millie Bobby Brown as Enola, so she’s sure to return if a third movie is confirmed.
Also hopefully returning for a third movie would be Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes,
Helen Bonham Carter as Enola and Sherlock’s mother Eudoria, Louis Partridge as Tewkesbury, Susie Wokoma as Edith and Adeel Akhtar as Lestrade.
Sam Claflin was missing from Enola Holmes 2 in the role of Enola’s brother Mycroft Holmes due to scheduling conflicts, so hopefully, he will be able to return for a third movie.
Enola Holmes 2 director, Harry Bradbeer, said Sam is welcome back if there is a third movie. “Well, it was Sam’s schedule that became very clear, so Sam was not going to be in it.”

We were very sorry that Sam couldn’t be in this one. If there was a future one we would love to have him back,” he told Collider.
A third film would also hopefully see the return of Sharon Duncan- Brewster as the iconic villain Moriarty.
And, as revealed in the credits scene, Himesh Patel has joined the cast as Sherlock’s sidekick, Dr. John Watson, and so he will ideally be returning for a third film.
What could Enola Holmes 3 be about?
Enola Holmes 2 ends with the main mystery solved but contained plenty of hints of what could happen in a third film.
With Moriarty and John Watson inducted into the series, Enola Holmes has brought together all the classic A. C. Doyle characters.
It’s safe to say that they will play a crucial role, should there be a third instalment.
Moriarty is seen escaping prison so she’ll likely be returning to cause the Holmes family all kinds of problems.
There’s also the introduction of Dr. John Watson, who will likely feature heavily in a potential third film.
Though the Enola Holmes films are inspired by the novel series of the same name by Nancy Springer, they don’t tend to follow the plots laid out in the novels exactly.

With the decision to have Moriarty be played by the wonderful Sharon Duncan- Brewster,
the franchise is opening up a number of possibilities to make a statement on the racial dynamics in Victorian England. Fingers crossed, the future movies do it justice!
Although, we hope that the long-admired Sherlock- Moriarty relationship doesn’t overshadow Enola herself.
After all, this is her series and the quirky, young girl deserves to keep her spotlight.
When could Enola Holmes 3 be released?
Enola Holmes 2 premiered two years after the first movie. Considering Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill are both actors with busy schedules, it’s safe to assume that the third instalment will be released sometime in 2024.
Of course, this is all speculation as there has been no official news regarding a third movie.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Millie Bobby Brown herself admitted looking forward to another film with more challenging cases for Enola.
